My physician is referring me to physical therapy. Why should I choose Rick Haupt Physical Therapy?
We have excellent relationships with physicians in the Sarasota area. Rick Haupt Physical Therapy is distinctive because each patient receives a customized treatment plan based on their specific needs and goals. We assess and consider a whole body approach for maximal function. Our goal is to support you on your path to lifelong healing and wellness so that the benefits of physical therapy carry well after treatment.
Do I need a prescription from my physician to receive physical therapy?
In Florida, you are entitled to Direct Access which means you can start physical therapy without a prescription. While you do not need a prescription to begin receiving physical therapy, one will often be required within 30 days of starting care. We can help facilitate this. Please call our office with any questions.
What happens during my first visit?
For your first visit please arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork. Bring your insurance cards and a prescription for physical therapy if you were provided one by your physician. You wil then be seen for the initial evaluation by a physical therapist.
The therapist will discuss your medical history, current problems/complaints, pain, aggravating/easing factors, how it impacts your daily activities, your functional limitations, and your goals. The therapist will then perform the objective evaluation which may include palpation, Range of Motion (ROM), muscle testing, neurological screening, special tests and a posture assessment.
The therapist will then create a plan of care which includes how many times you should seen per week, how many weeks you will need therapy, home programs, patient education, short-term/long-term goals, and what is expected after discharge from therapy.
What do I need to bring with me?
Make sure you bring your physical therapy referral (provided to you by your physician) and your payment information. If your insurance is covering the cost of physical therapy, bring your insurance card. If you are covered by auto insurance or an attorney lien, make sure you bring this information.
What shoulder I wear?
You should wear loose fitting clothing so you can expose the area that we will be evaluating and treating. For example, if you have a leg problem, it is best to wear shorts or loose paints. For a shoulder problem, a sleeveless/short sleeve shirt is optimal, and for low back problems, wear a relaxed fitting shirt and pants, again so we can perform a thorough examination.
How long is a treatment session?
Treatment sessions typically last 45 to 60 minutes per visit. Visit length can depend on patients tolerance to treatment based on their overall condition.
How long will I be in therapy?
This is highly variable. It depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, your past medical history, etc. You will be re-evaluated on a regular basis.
Will my physician be updated on my progress?
Yes, we have excellent communication with physicians. We routinely send notes on your progress to your physician, and if necessary, we call to discuss your care. If you know that you have an upcoming appointment you can notify your therapist and we can send you with a report.
